[Idea] How to Represent Fast in UI
In 2010 Harrison et al. presented a very interesting research paper on how progress bars can be designed to provide a perception of moving faster. What they discovered was those with animated ribbing that move backwards in a decelerating manner has a strong effect, reducing the perceived duration by about 11%. This is what Apple's OSX has been doing for some time, though it is unclear if they knew and were counting on this property.
